A Colorful Shade of Whale

Every once in a while something odd comes along here in Utah, and yours truly has to see it to believe it.

Back Story… or history lesson, depending on how you look at it…

I know many of you may not be old enough to remember the heavy snow in 1983 that caused heavy flooding damage around the State of Utah (sandbagging State Street [1], flooding of the town of Thistle [2], flooding of the Great Salt Lake [3]), or the excess amounts of snow Utah received in 1993. Luckily, 1993 was nothing as bad as 1983 since we learned from ‘83.

Now 2022-2023, Utah experienced record breaking levels of snow causing some to wonder if a piece of art that was placed in the center of a roundabout in Salt Lake (right before the snow started) causing the extra snow.

I won’t go in to great detail of how some believe that this artwork of a giant whale in the center of the 7th and 9th roundabout might be the cause of excessive snow[4], but instead I have decided to share some of my photographs of what the weather has caused around my neck of the woods (Park City, Cottonwood Heights and Sugar House Park), and then I will share my pictures of the Whale photographs.

Before the snow in October 2022…
